Revisiting the Old Dream House

My Momma is awesome... she had the forethought to save my Barbie Dream House, pool, motor home, corvette and accessories. She also saved the Barbie Fashion Plaza and escalator, but that is still at her house being cleaned up.

Elizabeth is sittin' in high cotton right about now.

Actually, EJ is at school, but I just got this all set up for her. She helped Momma get it down from their attic yesterday, and Geoff brought it all over here to our house, so she is already aware of it... but I think when she sees it all spread out she will be thrilled.

Cub is, I know... he's been driving Batman and Spiderman all around the house this morning in the Barbie corvette.

Here it is, in all it's 1970's glory! Look at all that orange and yellow on the house... the furniture is screaming seventies, with striped chairs and sofa, but I didn't get a close up shot of that. I did get a good little picture of all the itty bitty tiny pieces that Momma actually salvaged and kept, though. She managed to keep at least two full sets of the dinnerware - look at those tiny forks, spoons and knives!

I am so impressed, and so thankful!

The shower on this pool set actually worked too, and due to a bit of dry rot (!), a plastic piece that makes it work is broken at the moment... but soon we'll have it back and ready for Barbie to shower off after her swim.

What fun my best friends and I had with this stuff when we were kids... I can't wait to play Barbies again with Elizabeth this afternoon!

I am so surprised. This are so diferent from when I grew up. Our pool was round and matched our 24' round lined pool at home. Our camper was square and had a tent that popped out the back. My house was square folded up and if you opened it, on the left was the bedroom, the kitchen was in the center and on the right was the living room complete with plastic furniture and bed. The kitchen did not have the portable gadgets and units and my sisters town house was three stories high, with a pull up elevator.

They must have marketed different items for different parts of the country.

I hope you post pictures of EJ having fun. Thanks for the blast from the past!! Made my day!

I had those same kitchen items! How fun that you are able to give to your daughter what you played with as a child. Your mom did good.

Wow that is really cool! I would have thought you and your parents were rich if I came to play with you! Yes it is wonderful that your mom kept all that. I would love to come and play with it all now!! Your daughter is very lucky/blessed!!

WOW! Those are so cool... I wasn't a Barbie girl growing up but I am amazed by all the tiny pieces (the mommy in me is wondering how many kids choked on all those accessories...lol) Your daughter is so lucky to have something from your past, you have inspired me to start keeping some of my girls baby things!

PS...did you see that you were the winner of the mommy cards?? =)

good for your mom on saving all those! i'm not so great at saving things, so usually if something doesn't get used in 1-2 years, it gets tossed or donated. i can't imagine taking the time to save all those...she is awesome :) i hope elizabeth enjoys it!

This is so cool!!! My older girls got the enjoyment of my old Barbie Ski lodge....then it ceased to exist. My younger kids still have some of my furniture and Barbie clothes my mom made for us one Christmas....

Oh my goodness..such memories...how cool of your mom to do that? I mean hideous looking as it is (with regard to it's 70ish style) what little girl could resist...Oh, my favorite part of this when I was a kid was the fridge...love it!

I think I remember being VERY jealous of your Barbie pool with working shower...I didn't have it! ;)
I know Miss Elizabeth is going to have a ball! So sweet that your mom saved it all.

I just found your blog through the Hinesley House. I have to ask Does Geoff's last name end in G. I went to school with a Geoff in small town GA and their aren't too many guys who spell it that way, plus the flying thing, fits his family too. Comment on my blog if you will

I love the old toys like this. Much better than the electronic toys all the kids play with now.

Totally found your blog while looking for the old school Barbie stuff on Google Images. I was showing my 5 year old daughter what wonders lurked in my mom's attic for us to retrieve at some point. Oh my gosh, totally forgot the fridge and stove, love it!
I also had the square camper. How about the horses? Dallas maybe? My mom and I got into a dispute over the "home and office" with the murphy bed that all folded up into a little hexagonal case. She claims we didn't have that. I knew I did, and found the picture from my like 9th b-day, opening it up. Love that our p's all saved this stuff!!!

I looked up 1970 barbie house and came across your site...you had it ...your barbies where the "richies" lol. Now that I am in my 40's I find it fun to look back and remember when life was much simpler and way more creative and fun! Technology is wonderful, but nowhere near as wonderful as a childs imagination
